This I have heard repeatedly in the not too distant past:
“The ‘new testament or new covenant, brit chadasha, is better translated renewed covenant.'”
Don’t you think if native Hebrew speakers meant renewed they would have used the word for renewed? I’m just sayin’.
Our text, Jeremiah 31:31-34, is the foundational statement of the New Covenant, yet God does not speak of a renewed covenant (Mechudesheth’ = ‘Renewed’ in Hebrew); rather, he speaks of a New (chadash’ = ‘New in’ Hebrew) covenant.
Oh, and this:
“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” 2 Corinthians 11:3
Truth is good. Is it not?
