Spring

March 25, 2008

I enjoy art. I am a fan of impressionism as it leaves the little details to my imagination. This image is “Spring” by Edouard Manet.

I wonder where she is going, was going. What was she thinking of so seriously. Her eyes twinkle, ever so slightly. Was she struggling to maintain a “good pose” while he quickly penciled in her image and captured her delightful little hat for posterity? Did she know that that particular dress would be the one remembered for ever and shown in museums? Would she have chosen something different if she did?

She’s a girl, in the spring, carrying a parasol to protect her porcelain skin from the weak Parisian sunlight. I am assuming Parisian, because I like to write the word Parisian.

Is it possible he was in love with her?

What do we know? A pretty girl, next to a hedge, carrying a parasol and looking directly ahead.  Going somewhere.  Going nowhere.   Looking forward.    I like her.

I was going to tell you that that was Elliot Worthington in drag and post a link to the Wikipedia entry for Elliot, but I don’t have time to create the fictitious entry of a guy who stole from the Crown and ended up hiding in Paris as a woman.

    Oh, well.

I am a fan of the impressionists as well.
