Poetry

winter

November 12, 2008

i have found a barren-ness of soul

which cannot be hidden within polite

conversation and platitudes

no matter how convincingly they are shouted

I have found there is a time for winter

a time for fruitless endeavor

and a time for stripping bare

and for waiting

I have found there is a time for

questions without answers

and answers too deep

to question

I have found there is a time for blind eyes

barely focused on what is plain

and what is obvious

I have found there is a time for winter

in a pilgrim soul

that if avoided will only lead

to

an absence of spring
